Carboxin is a systemic fungicide belonging to the oxathiin class, widely used in plant biology and agricultural research. It is primarily active against basidiomycete fungi and is commonly applied in studies of fungal physiology, plant–pathogen interactions, and seed treatment systems. In research settings, carboxin is also used as a selective agent in fungal transformation systems. Mechanism of Action: Carboxin inhibits mitochondrial respiration by targeting succinate dehydrogenase (complex II) in the electron transport chain. This disruption blocks ATP production and leads to energy depletion, ultimately inhibiting fungal growth and survival.
