Validamycin A is an aminoglycoside-derived antifungal agent produced by Streptomyces hygroscopicus. It is widely used in plant biology and agricultural research for its activity against phytopathogenic fungi, particularly Rhizoctonia solani. Validamycin A is commonly applied as a tool to study carbohydrate metabolism and fungal growth regulation. Mechanism of Action: Validamycin A inhibits trehalase, an enzyme responsible for the hydrolysis of trehalose into glucose. This inhibition disrupts energy metabolism in fungi, leading to abnormal hyphal growth and suppression of fungal development.
