Atrazine is a selective triazine herbicide widely used in plant biology and agricultural research. It functions as a photosystem II (PSII) inhibitor and is commonly applied to study photosynthesis, herbicide resistance, and plant physiology. In laboratory settings, atrazine is also used as a selection agent in plant-based experimental systems. Mechanism of Action: Atrazine inhibits photosynthesis by binding to the D1 protein in photosystem II, blocking electron transport from plastoquinone. This disruption leads to the generation of reactive oxygen species and ultimately causes chlorosis and plant cell death.
