Amiprophos-methyl is a phosphoric amide herbicide widely used in plant biology research as a microtubule-disrupting agent. It is known for its ability to interfere with cell division by inhibiting microtubule polymerization, making it a valuable tool for studying mitosis, cytoskeleton organization, and plant cell development. In addition to its herbicidal properties, amiprophos-methyl is commonly used in vitro to induce polyploidy and to manipulate plant growth processes. Mechanism of Action: Amiprophos-methyl disrupts microtubule formation by inhibiting tubulin polymerization, leading to the breakdown of the mitotic spindle. This inhibition blocks chromosome segregation during mitosis, resulting in cell cycle arrest and abnormal cell division. In plant systems, this activity can lead to growth inhibition, morphological changes, or induction of polyploid cells.
