Vancomycin hydrochloride is a glycopeptide antibiotic widely used for its potent activity against Gram-positive bacteria. It is commonly applied in microbiology and cell biology research to control bacterial contamination and to study cell wall biosynthesis. Vancomycin is particularly effective against organisms resistant to β-lactam antibiotics, making it an important tool in antimicrobial and resistance studies. Mechanism of Action: Vancomycin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to the D-Ala-D-Ala terminus of peptidoglycan precursors, thereby preventing cross-linking and elongation of the cell wall.
