Ticarcillin disodium is a broad-spectrum β-lactam antibiotic belonging to the carboxypenicillin class. It exhibits strong activity against Gram-negative bacteria and is widely used in microbiology and plant biology research. Ticarcillin is commonly applied to control bacterial contamination and is particularly effective for eliminating Agrobacterium following plant transformation. Mechanism of Action: Ticarcillin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), thereby preventing cross-linking of peptidoglycan chains. This leads to weakening of the cell wall and eventual bacterial lysis.
