Spectinomycin dihydrochloride pentahydrate is an aminocyclitol antibiotic derived from Streptomyces spectabilis. It exhibits activity against a range of Gram-negative bacteria and is widely used in molecular biology and plant research. Spectinomycin is commonly applied as a selective agent in cloning and plant transformation systems, particularly in association with the aadA resistance gene. Mechanism of Action: Spectinomycin binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit and inhibits protein synthesis by interfering with translocation during translation.
