Gentamicin sulphate is a broad-spectrum aminoglycoside antibiotic derived from Micromonospora purpurea. It exhibits strong activity against a wide range of Gram-negative bacteria and certain Gram-positive organisms. Gentamicin is widely used in microbiology and cell culture applications for contamination control and as a selective agent in bacterial systems. Mechanism of Action: Gentamicin binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit, causing misreading of mRNA and inhibition of protein synthesis. This leads to the production of nonfunctional or toxic proteins and ultimately results in bacterial cell death.
