Destomycin A is an aminoglycoside antibiotic produced by Streptomyces rimofaciens. It exhibits activity primarily against certain bacteria and fungi and is widely used in plant pathology and microbiological research. Destomycin A is particularly valued for its role in studying plant–microbe interactions and for its selective inhibition of specific microbial populations. Mechanism of Action: Destomycin A binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit, interfering with protein synthesis by causing misreading of mRNA and inhibiting translation. This results in the production of nonfunctional proteins and ultimately leads to inhibition of microbial growth.
