Clindamycin hydrochloride is a lincosamide antibiotic with strong activity against Gram-positive bacteria and anaerobic organisms. It is a semi-synthetic derivative of lincomycin and is widely used in microbiology and cell culture applications for selective inhibition of susceptible bacteria. Clindamycin is also used in research systems involving anaerobic bacteria and as a selective agent in certain genetic selection workflows. Mechanism of Action: Clindamycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, blocking peptide bond formation and inhibiting elongation of the peptide chain. This results in suppression of bacterial growth and, at higher concentrations, bactericidal effects.
