Chlortetracycline hydrochloride is a broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic originally isolated from Streptomyces aureofaciens. It exhibits activity against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as certain intracellular organisms. Chlortetracycline is widely used in microbiology and research applications for bacterial inhibition and as a tool in tetracycline-regulated gene expression systems. Mechanism of Action: Chlortetracycline inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, blocking the attachment of aminoacyl-tRNA to the ribosome. This prevents the addition of new amino acids to the growing peptide chain, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis.
