Apramycin sulphate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic with broad-spectrum activity against Gram-negative bacteria and limited activity against Gram-positive organisms. It was originally isolated from Streptomyces tenebrarius and is widely used in veterinary medicine and microbiological research. In recent years, apramycin has gained attention as an alternative selection antibiotic in molecular biology due to its low cross-resistance with commonly used aminoglycosides. Mechanism of Action: Apramycin binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit, interfering with protein synthesis by causing misreading of mRNA and inhibiting translocation. This results in the production of nonfunctional proteins and ultimately leads to bacterial cell death.
