Murashige & Skoog Medium, including vitamins, contains the complete macro- and micronutrient composition together with the original vitamin formulation described by Murashige & Skoog (1962). The vitamins support enzymatic activity and cellular metabolism during rapid growth and differentiation. In some applications, the original MS vitamins may be replaced or supplemented with alternative vitamin systems such as those of Linsmaier & Skoog or Gamborg B5 to provide higher thiamine levels. The high salt formulation ensures strong growth responses, while modified strengths can be used for sensitive species. This medium remains the standard reference for plant tissue culture worldwide.
