Eriksson (ER) Medium was developed by Eriksson in 1965 for the in vitro cell suspension culture of Haplopappus gracilis (family Asteraceae/Compositae). The formulation consists of a defined blend of inorganic salts, vitamins, amino acid, and carbohydrate designed to support active cell proliferation. Nitrogen is supplied as a combination of potassium nitrate and ammonium nitrate, promoting cell division and morphogenic competence while contributing to pH stability. Potassium dihydrogen phosphate provides phosphate to stimulate cell growth. Essential microelements, together with thiamine, pyridoxine, nicotinic acid, and glycine, support primary and secondary metabolism. ER Medium is widely used for plant cell suspension cultures in both monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous systems.
